The Creator: Henry Bowles

Henry Bowles is one of the key innovators behind the AlertMeter.  With a background in maritime design and technology, Henry watched the Exxon Valdez disaster unfold in 1989.  Upon learning that fatigue was a major contributing factor, Henry was motivated to search for an efficient way to check for fatigue and other cognitive impairment issues in the occupational environment.

In collaboration with scientist Dr. Ted Langley, Henry developed computer graphics and game technology that could be used to check employees in any occupational environment who are engaged in dangerous and critical tasks against impairment issues such as fatigue.

The technology was vetted by Henry Bowles and Dr. Ted Langley in 1996 with funding support from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

The AlertMeter became a practical application with the introduction of touchscreen technology.  Working with Predictive Safety’s development team, the AlertMeter has become the most accurate and practical system in the world for managing fatigue risk and other sources of cognitive impairment in any workplace environment.
